The same core problem is holding back entire industries: bioreactors generate enormous amounts of data, but the software running them was built for chemical reactors — not for living cells. Cells are complex biological systems that are dynamic. In bioreactors, cells are constantly changing, with greatly varying metabolic activities and needs, whilst bioreactor conditions remain static based on manually input operator setpoints and there is a lack of bioprocess insight.
Optimisation only occurs manually between long runs and bioreactors remain inefficient, running on archaic control software. The result is high batch failure rates, inconsistent yields, and production costs that keep scale-up and/or affordability out of reach.
